A logo and a colour palette aren’t a brand system. They’re a starting point. A system is what lets someone who has never met the designer create a new page, slide or social post that still looks like the brand.

Start with the pieces people actually use

Teams rarely need a 60-page guideline. They need the logo files, the colours with exact values, the type styles, and a handful of real examples. I build those first and add detail only where questions come up.

Turn rules into components

On the website, the system lives as components and styles: buttons, section labels, cards, text styles. Changing one updates every page, which is the only way a brand stays consistent as a site grows.

  • Tokens. Colours and type sizes with clear names.

  • Components. Reusable building blocks with sensible variants.

  • Templates. Page layouts that are hard to get wrong.

The test of a brand system is the first page built without the designer in the room.

Leave room to grow

A good system has space for things that don’t exist yet: a new product, a campaign colour, a second language. Planning those extension points early saves a rebuild later.
